How many half-gallon Ball Mason jars can you fit in your cooker?

How many half-gallon jars can you fit in a 25-quart All-American pressure cooker at one time?

If you have smaller or larger size cooker can you let me know as well?

Not saying you can't do canning in 1/2 gallon jars, but no one recommends it. Never seen a pressure/time chart for 1/2 gallons, but have seen plenty of recommendations that say "don't".

For example meat in pints is 60 minutes and quarts is 90. I 'guess' you could extrapolate that to 120 minutes for 1/2 gallons, but maybe not. Problem is, you might not get the inside up to the required temps for long enough due to the extra volume of the jar.

Edit: my math is screwed up......My NEW guess is 1/2 gallon would take more like 150-180 minutes with a meat product......meaning you could run probably two loads of quarts in the time it would take to run 1/2 gallons....and even THAT is pure guess work......

Do you know how many single quart jars you can fit in a 25 quart cooker?

30 qt

That's the capacity that the company claims, but it isn't true. In my 30 qt AA canner, I can fit only 17 pints and 12 quarts.

I've heard that their claim is based on older jars, so if you have old jars you might be able to fit that capacity. If you are using new jars, you won't.

A quart of chicken (deboned) is quite a lot of chicken.

Varies by jar brands as well. We have quite a "collection" of jars, and I'm amazed at the differences in a pint or quart jar from one brand to another....taller, wider, shorter, narrower.....all kinds of variation.

My AA 941 will hold "about" 20 quart jars.

Ball seems to be making more of the tall/thin jars as well as pushing the "platinum"-colored lids. The latest is a 12 ounce jar that is the diameter of the quilted jelly jars. We picked up a case last week when we used the "$2.50 off two cases" coupon. I hope they actually make the same jar diameter for pints.

I read that 1/2 gallon jars are only recommended for things like tomato juice and broth. No solid foods.
